What is a podcast?

The idea from this post was sparked by my Godsister.  She has seen me promote my podcasts online and we talk about them all the time.  I tell her how many downloads they are generating and talk about the shows in general.  One day she said, [su_quote]You know what, you keep talking about this podcast, but I have no idea what that is,[/su_quote] and I burst into laughter.

A podcast is a an episodic series of on demand media. The media can be audio or video. I subscribe to and download the shows through web syndication. They can be streamed online to a computer or mobile device.

In simple terms, it is an rss feed with an on demand talk show enclosed.

what-is-podcastYou can to listen to people on the go and watch videos (oftentimes free videos) with interviews, niche topics, etc.  Podcasting is an amazing medium. It has allowed so many brands to establish themselves online.

So of course, Soulphisticated business owners can use it for business purposes and I encourage you to do so.

Since I have returned to listening to podcasts, I have a few favorites that I enjoy on a regular basis for various reasons.  And oddly enough, you can find podcasts that relate to all of your interests.

The point of this post is to let you know that if you’ve been sleeping on podcasts (and listening to regular radio on the way to work) you should wake up.  There is a wealth of information in podcasts.

There is a community of people who listen podcasts and  often they have an online presence with like minded people.  It’s important to join the communities and get involved in those discussions, you never know where you will find optimal opportunities, new JV partners, Affiliates and possibilities.

Guess where the podcasts are hiding…

Right on iTunes and Stitcher!  Yeah, you’ve been sleeping on podcasts and they’ve been hiding right on iTunes Stitcher.  You can download your favorite shows automatically without having to search out every single episode on the publishing dates.  It’s automatic.  So not only are podcasts better than traditional radio because you’re actually listening to the things you truly have an interest in, they are on demand and are also convenient! You can use Stitcher (app) ,  iTunes or Zune.

There are many other podcatchers out there, so don’t get me wrong, these are not the only mediums you can use, but they are the most popular.

Soul Sprints

These podcasts have been in my weekly rotation for a while. A lot of them feed my soul. I anticipating the next episode to see what they talk about next and it’s fun; also exciting to learn something new.  I have added the podcasts I record to this lineup because I record and listen to them each week as well and you may as well come on over because it is always a great time on the shows I record.

Would you like to start a podcast? Well here are a few tips

  •  If you want to start a podcast of your own to broaden your brand or expand your expertise, you should definitely make sure you do it right and have the right kind of audio.  I have listened to a number of podcasts that turned me off from the outset because of their audio or how fuzzy sounding the interview turns out to be or just the host in general.  This usually happens with streaming sites, like blog talk radio or the like.
  • Have a clear format
  • Be timely so your audience knows when to tune in
  • Have engaging guests and remember you don’t have to air a show that doesn’t work for your platform

If you would like to start a podcast and need some help with the set up, format or launch contact me. It is a part of the soul servings menu and I would love to help you get started.
